It’s not uncommon for older dogs who once loved canned dog food to start eating less of it or shunning the food entirely. In fact, Portland Pet Food Company was founded in 2014 because founder Katie McCarron’s beloved standard poodle, Rosie, was no longer enjoying canned dog food and had begun to lose weight.

In her kitchen, Katie set out to cook food that Rosie, who had suddenly become a very picky eater dog, would love. From those humble beginnings, we now have 5 flavors of fresh dog food toppings and 7 flavors of fresh dog treats that senior dogs love. Portland Pet Food is available in more than 2,000 stores across the U.S., including Whole Foods stores.

Meal Pouches – A Better Choice For Senior Dogs
For senior dogs, it’s important that they get enough nutrients each day in order to keep thriving. Yet, as dogs get older, they can develop sensitive stomachs and have more trouble digesting food. At Portland Pet Food Company, we gently cook our meals inside pouches, which locks in the nutrients of the fresh, whole foods that we use. The meal pouches have a shelf-stable life of two years and can be heated up in the microwave or hot water. You can also serve the food straight from the meal pouch, as all meals are fully cooked and ready-to-eat.

No Additives, Preservatives, Byproducts, Or Rendered Food In PPFC's Meals
If you read the label on most types of canned dog foods – even those purporting to be “healthy” or “natural” or "fresh" – you’ll be shocked! Most canned dog foods for senior dogs contain additives, preservatives, byproducts and/or rendered food, all of which are NOT in our products.

Human-Grade Ingredients – No More than 11 Ingredients
We use only fresh, natural ingredients to make our dog food toppers and treats, which benefits all dogs, but especially senior dogs. There are never more than 11 ingredients (all human-grade) in any of our meals or dog treats, which makes them easier for older dogs to digest. All of our ingredients are sourced in the U.S., most of them from the Pacific Northwest, near our headquarters in Portland.

Meal Pouches Take Up Less Space Than Cans Of Dog Food
As an added bonus, our meal pouches take up less space than cans of dog food, and they don’t require refrigeration or freezing (until you open them, at which point they should be good for 3-5 days). This makes the meal pouches great for travel, and especially hiking and camping. The lightweight, portable pouches are designed to stand up on their own, which makes it easy to scoop out the tasty, fresh food.
