In 2014, Rosie, Katie’s 14-year-old Poodle, lost her appetite and her health declined. Determined to find something healthy that Rosie would love, Katie began cooking meals for her at home. She used locally-sourced, natural ingredients, and Rosie loved it. She regained her appetite and stayed strong for two and a half more years, living to 16 ½ years old! Just like that, Portland Pet Food Company was born.
Today, PPFC helps dogs thrive with the same nutritious meals and treats that were formulated in Katie’s kitchen years ago, with the same focus on fresh, local ingredients and sustainability.
Our Story
It all started with a dog named Rosie...
Leaders of the pack
We founded Portland Pet Food Company out of the need to care for our pets the same way we care for ourselves. After spending over 20 years as a health communications consultant, founder Katie McCarron turned her nutritional eye to Rosie, her aging, standard poodle's diet. Unsure of what to feed finicky Rosie, who no longer enjoyed canned food and had begun to lose weight, the amount of unnatural supplements in basic dog food shocked Katie. She began to cook Rosie’s meals at home, always focusing on locally sourced, natural ingredients. Rosie regained the weight she had lost and Katie, with her family by her side, expanded on her meals and dog biscuits.

Behind the scenes of PPFC is a very hard-working team of bakers and staff who work to ensure dogs around the world can enjoy premium, nutritious meals and treats. Our bakers come in bright and early to mix and bake thousands of biscuits each day, and our fulfillment team works to make sure each bag is shipped in good condition and on time. Thanks to this team, we’re able to feel confident each day that your dog will get their goodies on time. We couldn’t do it without them!

Portland Pet Food Company believes you should feed your dog & cat like you feed yourself. We worked with the Oregon Food Innovation Program to develop our sustainable, local, AAFCO regulated line of products. We also partner with Pacific Northwest companies to ensure that 100% of your cat's & dog’s food is sourced and made in the United States. We hand roll and cut our dog biscuits and cook all meals from scratch.
Over the last eight years, our delicious line of dog products has expanded from biscuits to shelf-stable meal toppers to cat meal toppers. The first of their kind, our convenient shelf-stable pouch meals work as dry food toppers, mixers, or soft treats. Smaller and senior pets may enjoy them all on their own! Their lightweight and easy portability make them perfect for camping, backpacking or adventuring with your pup or hanging at home with your cat.
