Portland Pet Food Company Sets Intentions For 2021

A new year is finally upon us, and surely we’re not the only ones thankful to see 2020 coming to a close! Before we fully set our sights on 2021, we wanted to reflect on aspects of 2020 that we're grateful for and would not have been possible without your support! 

Our Top Moments of 2020 

1. We more than doubled our team! 
2. We launched Wally’s Salmon N’ Rice, our newest fresh, human-grade dog food. It’s already a crowd pleaser and was named Best Wet Dog Food of 2020!
3. Our products became available on Chewy, making it easier than ever to get natural, healthy pet food. 
4. We expanded internationally, reaching customers in both Japan and Canada!

While we’re excited to make new memories and reach more landmarks in 2021, we’re also looking forward to recommitting to the values that make us Portland Pet Food Company. Below are the values that we’ve cherished since 2014 and how we plan to continue working towards them in 2021.

100% Sourced and Made in the USA — A Value That Goes Beyond Creating Jobs 

Since day one, our products have been made 100% in the USA with ingredients sourced 100% from the USA, a value that separates us from our competitors. Of course, having a supply chain domestically-located supports the economy and creates jobs — but it does so much more than that. 

Around the world, there are varying levels of regulations that determine what can and cannot go into dog food, many of which are lenient and allow for the addition of ingredients that aren’t nutritious for dogs. At PPFC, we not only source our ingredients from the US, we source wholly from local farms and businesses that we trust and hold to the highest standards. Because of that, you can rest assured that our meals and treats are completely nutritious for your dog. 

In 2021, we promise to continue holding ourselves and our partners to high standards, resulting in the best possible meals and treats for your four-legged friends. 

Produce Products That Humans Could Eat

Our products are made with human-grade ingredients, resulting in dog meals and treats that you could eat too! But why? We believe that our best friends deserve the best! Secondly, we’ve seen first-hand the positive impact that fresh food has on a dog’s health and lifestyle, and we wanted to give that same opportunity to every dog out there. There isn’t a single ingredient in our products that we wouldn’t ourselves eat for dinner, and that won’t change in 2021 — or ever.  

Be Sustainable — Something That’s Hard to Find in the Pet Industry 

As soon as Katie launched PPFC, she committed to being as sustainable as possible, which we continue to do today through local sourcing, a free recycling program, upcycling spent grains, and investing in eco-friendly meal pouches. In fact, in 2020, we were named as one of the top 20 most sustainable brands in pet food!

In 2021, we will continue working towards making our products and company as sustainable as possible through how we source our ingredients, looking for the most environmentally-friendly ways to package our products, staying active with organizations such as the Pet Sustainability Coalition, and more. Make The Pet Food Industry A Better Place

Before launching PPFC, Katie was shocked to learn about the lack of transparency and poor natural nutrition in most pet foods. PPFC will continue to provide honesty across all of our product lines, hold suppliers to high standards, share educational resources with pet owners, and work hard to make the industry an overall better place for your pets.

Looking Forward 

Portland Pet Food Company launched in 2014 out of the need to care for an elderly dog. In 2021 we will continue to work for the love of that same dog, Rosie, and dogs like yours around the world. We will continue to educate pet owners about the power of food, will look for ways we can be more sustainable, and will work to make the highest quality pet products using human-grade, USA-sourced ingredients. Thanks to all of the pet owners who continue to support us, we look forward to sharing another wonderful year with all of you and your dogs!
