Quick Answers
Do I need to freeze this?
No! We are the only 100% USA shelf-stable, fresh meal in the pet food industry. That means our gently cooked meals are not only easy to serve, but easy to store. You only have to refrigerate after opening.
What is the shelf-life?
All of our products are preservative and additive free. Our retort pouch meals are shelf-stable for 2 years and our treats are for 18 months. Once you open our meal pouches they last up to 5 days in the fridge.
What is a retort pouch?
Retort pouches are structured containers made of layers of laminate, paper products, or recycled materials. We gently cook our meals and fill the pouches, they are then hermetically sealed to guarantee a shelf life of two years. Meaning they can sit in your pantry while maintaining the same freshness as the day they were made. Just tear open and serve! Once open they last up to 5 days in the fridge, just like your food leftovers! The process of manufacturing pet food in retort pouches uses 75% less energy and 1/10th of the CO2 used to manufacture a metal can of pet food. Additionally, due to their size and shape, a standard 45-foot truck can ship 2.3 million retort packages at once, while the same trailer could only carry 200,000 8oz. cans, bringing down shipping costs and CO2 emissions. How do I introduce PPFC to my pet's meal?
All new products to your pet's diet should be slowly added over a period of 5-7 days. Mix with their current food over the week, slowly increase the amount of PPFC and reducing the amount of their previous food. If you are using as a topper, introduce with a spoonful one mealtime a day for the first 3-5 days.
Are the meals 'complete & balanced'?
The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and Federal Drug Administration (FDA) classify two groups of pet food – “Completely Balanced Foods” or “Treats”. Completely balanced foods must meet certain regulations, including a minimum content of specific nutrients. To meet that requirement, pet food will often contains additives, fillers and synthetic vitamins and minerals. We’ve chosen not to add these components to PPFC’s products and let you as a pet owner decide if additional supplementation is needed -- with the help of your veterinarian. The product has been through laboratory testing and meets the requirements for "guaranteed analysis" of crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber and moisture. Like humans, dogs should eat a variety of foods each week. Our products offer the opportunity for dogs to eat an array of meats and vegetables that may not be balanced per AAFCO for each feeding but over a weekly period allow you to provide your dog with a natural balanced diet. Each meal is only decimal points shy on a few vitamins & minerals from being naturally complete.
