Let’s take a look at how our chicken-flavored wet dog food compares to Royal Canin’s chicken-flavored small adult dog dry food.
PPFC’s Tuxedo’s Chicken & Yams vs Royal Canin’s Chicken-Flavored Small Adult Dog Dry Food
The main differentiator between our chicken-flavored dog food and Royal Canin’s is the quality of the chicken that goes into the two products. In our dog food, we use human-grade, USDA-certified chicken, (from Cascade Farms in eastern Oregon). Royal Canin makes their dog food with chicken by-product meal and chicken fat.
If you’ve never heard of chicken by-products, in essence, they’re everything found on a chicken, except the chicken meat. Chicken by-products can come from the organs (lungs, kidneys, spleens, and liver), as well as other parts of the chicken (such as the neck, feet, bones, and undeveloped eggs). Chicken by-products meal contains the same ingredients, in a dried form. None of our products, including our chicken and yams dog food, ever contains rendered meats or by-products.
Another stark difference between our dog food and Royal Canin’s dog food is that our primary ingredients are chicken and yams, while theirs are corn, chicken by-product meal, and brewer’s rice (in that order). When you read a dog food label – just as with human food labels – the ingredients are listed in order of most prominent to least prominent. Four of the top five ingredients in Royal Canin’s chicken-flavored dog food are fillers, and the inclusion of more than 40 other ingredients means that this isn’t “all-natural,” which ours is.
