Dog Food: Portland Pet Food Company vs Natural Balance

Check out our meal deal – save 40% on our variety pack of 5 delicious dog food flavors!

At Portland Pet Food Company, when we say that all of our dog food meals and dog treats have limited ingredients in them, we mean it!

Other dog food brands are a bit looser in their interpretation of “limited ingredients,” and, unfortunately, there’s no industry standard for the term.

Natural Balance has a line of dog food kibble that’s labelled as “L.I.D. Limited Ingredients Diet,” but when we compare their beef flavored kibble with our Rosie’s Beef N’ Rice flavor of wet dog food, the differences are stark.

PPFC’s Rosie’s Beef N ’Rice vs Natural Balance’s Limited Ingredient Diet Beef Formula
For starters, as with all of our dog food meals and treats, we only use natural, non-GMO, human-grade, whole foods, and all of our meats are USDA-certified.

Contrast that with the beef meal that’s in Natural Balance’s beef flavor of dry dog food – beef meal is a byproduct that’s made from remnants of inedible food that comes from slaughterhouses. The inclusion of beef meal isn’t unique to Natural Balance’s dog food kibble; it can be found in many brands of dry dog food.

Ingredients In PPFC’s Rosie’s Beef N’ Rice Dog Food
In our beef and rice flavor of dog food, there are only 9 ingredients, all of which are natural and healthy.  Here are the ingredients, in order of most prominent ingredient to least prominent ingredient:

  • Beef (from Cascade Natural Meats in Oregon)
  • Brown Rice
  • Peas
  • Carrots
  • Beef Heart
  • Eggs
  • Millet Flour
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Eggshell (a great source of calcium)

All of our ingredients are sourced in the U.S., most from the Pacific Northwest, near our headquarters in Portland, Oregon. We never use rendered meats, and our beef is sourced from Cascade Organic Beef, in  eastern Oregon.

Notably, in our beef and rice flavor, as with all of our flavors of dog food, there are no rendered meats, no preservatives, no growth hormones, no artificial coloring (or artificial anything) and no BHA or BHT (preservatives that are found in many types of dog food).
